COMMON CORE
The framers of our U.S. Constitution intended for education to be the responsibility of the states. The formation of the Common Core curriculum cuts directly against that intention. Therefore, I support a repeal of Common Core.
We must deliver for our children and grandchildren the best possible education, and we must be willing to implement new and innovative ideas for our schools. However, local school districts should have the final decision on the curriculum taught in their classrooms, and they should be able to operate unencumbered by federal standards that do not reflect the values of our individual communities.
2nd AMENDMENT RIGHTS
I am a strong supporter of our rights under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and will support legislation to continue protecting these rights. I support the laws passed by the legislature in recent sessions. We do not need any more laws restricting the lawful right for our citizens to bear arms. I also would support legislation promoting a meaningful Right to Hunt and Fish amendment in Alabama.
TAXES
As a conservative businessman and taxpayer, I support tax cuts for our working families and job creators. Tax cuts for our working families allows them to keep more of their hard-earned money and make their own decisions on spending. When we relieve the tax burden for our job creators, we allow them the opportunity to place more resources back into their businesses for hiring and expansion. This helps grow opportunities throughout our communities. We can pave the way for tax cuts by reducing wasteful spending and making government an even smaller part of our lives. In addition, I oppose any increases in state taxes. Increased taxes are harmful to the economy and restrict job growth. I would oppose any efforts to increase any tax, including income, state ad valorem, gasoline, corporate, excise, sales and use taxes.
I support the rights of local cities and municipalities to make their own choices on how they want to handle support for local schools. However, I will oppose any mandated tax increases at any level of government.
